From an early age I’ve had a passion for a wide variety sports, starting with gymnastics and athletics, then focusing mostly on running. A running injury led me to look for other sports to reduce the time I spent pounding the pavements, and that’s when I discovered triathlon.
I realised after a couple of years of competing in sprint and Olympic distance races that my strength was in the longer distances and I completed my first iron distance race (the Outlaw) in 2012. I’ve since completed the Outlaw twice more (finishing third both times) and have competed with the GB age group long distance team twice, taking a European bronze medal at Challenge Vichy in 2013.
Triathlon is an incredible sport that allows people of all backgrounds, sizes, fitness levels and ages to compete. As a coach, it is hugely rewarding to support people through their triathlon experience, whether that be taking part in their first ever race, helping an athlete make the step up to longer distance or pushing an experienced athlete to achieve the very best they can.
I believe in taking a highly individualised and rounded approach to coaching. This involves extending training beyond simply running, biking and swimming, so that it includes recovery, strength and nutrition. It also considers each individual athlete’s strengths and weaknesses, their priorities, and their own definitions of success.
